Comparision between a sick and healthy horse

Healthy horse
  • Healthy respiratory rate 8-15 breaths per minute.
  • normal heart rate of Foals (70-120 bpm), Yearlings (45-60 bpm), 2yr. olds (40-50 bpm).
  • normal temperature 99-101degrees F
  • not pawing or in pain
  • not favoring a leg or looking at flank
  • normal appetite
Sick horse
  • Breathing heavy or slow
  • abnormal heart rate
  • temperature higher that 101 degrees or lower than 99 degrees F
  • Pawing
  • looking at flank or bitting flank
  • favoring a leg or limping
  • abnormal appetite
  • shows discomfort or acts like its in pain
