Comparision between a sick and healthy horse
Healthy horse- Healthy respiratory rate 8-15 breaths per minute.
- normal heart rate of Foals (70-120 bpm), Yearlings (45-60 bpm), 2yr. olds (40-50 bpm).
- normal temperature 99-101degrees F
- not pawing or in pain
- not favoring a leg or looking at flank
- normal appetite
Sick horse- Breathing heavy or slow
- abnormal heart rate
- temperature higher that 101 degrees or lower than 99 degrees F
- Pawing
- looking at flank or bitting flank
- favoring a leg or limping
- abnormal appetite
- shows discomfort or acts like its in pain
